Durability of Edgebanding: Resistance to Wear Over Time
Durability of Edgebanding: Resistance to Wear Over Time
In furniture design, edgebanding enhances both aesthetics and durability, extending the lifespan of panels. However, over time, issues such as wear, scratches, and fading can arise. The durability of Edgebanding is especially crucial for furniture used in high-traffic areas and commercial spaces. Here are the factors that affect durability and ways to improve it:

1. Selection of TECE Edgebanding Materials
- PVC Edgebanding: Affordable and resistant to water, heat, scratches, and UV rays. However, it is not environmentally friendly as it cannot be incinerated for disposal.
- ABS Edgebanding: More durable, resistant to scratches, and UV-resistant. It can be incinerated for disposal but is more expensive than PVC.
- PP Edgebanding: Durable, scratch-resistant, and UV-resistant. It can be incinerated and is the most cost-efficient Edgebanding option.
- Melamine-Coated Banding: Economical but offers limited resistance to impact.
- Wood Veneer Banding: Aesthetically appealing but more delicate. It is indispensable for high-quality furniture production.

2. What we do at TECE for better surface resistance
- UV Protective Coatings and more: Prevent color fading in PVC, ABS, PP edgebanding.
- Surface Hardening with coating: Provides extra protection against scratches.

3. Heat and Moisture Resistance
- Heat Resistance: PVC, PP and ABS edgebanding are resistant to high temperatures, with ABS and PP offering superior performance.
- Moisture Resistance: PVC, PP and ABS edgebanding are durable in humid environments, while wood veneer banding may swell or deform when exposed to moisture. Moisture is more related with the application and type of glue used in the process by the furniture maker.

4. TECE Selection Based on Purpose
We recommend that our customers or furniture makers use products based on their market needs. All plastic edgebandings at TECE will perform well but the requirements of the country’s or the market’s rules and regulations will be the deciding point.
