Relation of Design and Budget: Design by Budget, Budget by Design
Relation of Design and Budget: Design by Budget, Budget by Design
It is wrong to think of a budget-independent design from start to finish. The design process also entails a certain amount expenditure. Each of the pre-preparation, design, implementation and service stages involved in the process often requires predictable expenses. Therefore, a project budget is created for each design project. A project budget is a plan that predicts how much and how your project will use your financial resources from the beginning to the end. In this article, where we will examine the design - budget relationship, we will basically look at two different approaches: “Design by budget” and “budget by design”. First, when we consider the issue with the "design by budget" approach, the process works as follows: The designer and the customer, mostly the customer, determine the budget. Then the process proceeds with design decisions that meet the determined budget. Finally, the final product or system is revealed. But in this case, undesirable situations may occur due to a limited and less flexible budget. For example, in designs created according to a limited budget, it may be necessary to sacrifice material selection, skilled workmanship and quality detail. A 10x-unit budget cannot be changed stretched. Although the form of the finished design is desired, some of its subtleties may have to be omitted. This, in turn, can negatively affect the project. In the second option, “budget by design”, things can go a little differently. Because in this part, compared to the other option, the main one is the design itself, and at the end of the day, the design is given the right. The budget issue is not the main problem of design. A detailed brief is received from the customer and the design and budget are outlined. As the project is detailed in the following steps, the budget is finalized and budget is changabled. In this option, the customer's desires and dreams; the designer's goals and the dynamism of design concern are always preserved. In this way, the main topic of the project becomes the design itself, rather than the budget. To give an example of this situation, the quality of the design does not have to be compromised in the changes to the design or at the brief step. The project budget of 10x units can be increased to 11x and the design can be moved to a more advanced dimension. In the end of the article to summarize: every successful design/project/product actually means successful budget management. The process is constructed according to the specified “design by budget” or “budget by design” options. Both situations have advantages for the customer, as well as disadvantages.
