Traveler of Lost City: Lebanon
Lebanon is a fascinating country with her history, diverse culture, and natural attractions. The country has gone through a difficult time for the few decades. During our visit to Lebanon, we had the time to make some sightseeing in Beirut and Baalbek.
Once called Paris of the Middle East, Beirut was one of the most attractive cities in the Middle East. Even though the number of visitors in the city is lower now, it is worthwhile to visit.
Baalbek, we were surprised to see the lesser number of visitors to the incredible site. I have been many places of historical sites such as Ephesus, ancient parts of Rome or Machu Picchu, but this place is nothing like it. It is huge in size and architecture.
Inhabited as early as 9000 BCE, Baalbek grew into an important pilgrimage site in the ancient world and it was still important at the Roman times as they kept adding new things to the site.
It is incredible to figure out how people at that time moves and built this place. In my photos below, you can actually see the size of the columns and so on. There are stones in the foundation as heavy as 880 tons.
I can confirm that Baalbek is the most astonishing historical site that I have been in my life. Yet, due to the security reasons, I would ask traveler to be careful and make sure that they are together with some local people.
I will now stop here and ask you to see the photos and figure out how they were built.
