The Color of Furniture Now: Notes from SICAM 2026

Furniture color in 2026 is warm, matte and quiet: beige replaces white, earth tones lead the colored range, and the only loud color left is one carefully placed accent.

We walked SICAM in Pordenone (20–23 October 2026), photographed more than 120 views of decor, panel and surface stands, and tallied the palettes of 75 of them. This is what designers and architects will be asked to specify next. Edge, panel and fitting colors all follow the same few directions, so it pays to choose them together.

The year in four lines

• Warm replaces white. Soft beige, greige and linen are the new neutral backdrop.
• Earth is the color. Terracotta, clay, rust and blush appeared on nearly half of the stands we mapped.
• Dark is the stage. Graphite, aubergine and deep navy make wood and color glow.
• Accents are rationed. Mustard, sage, olive or red appear once per scheme, never as the base.

Six color stories

The Color of Furniture Now: Notes from SICAM 2026

1. Beige is the new white

The biggest quiet shift. Stark white is giving way to soft beige, linen and greige as the neutral that everything else sits on, and it showed up on 24 of 75 stands. Panel makers are saying it in their own collections, with soft and caramel beige solids paired with warm woods. We saw the same logic on stands from laminate, linoleum and surface specialists.

Use it for: wardrobes, wall-to-wall cabinetry, kitchen fronts, anywhere white used to be the default.

2. Baked earth
The most common colored family at the fair, on 34 of 75 stands. Terracotta, rust, clay, sand and blush, in matte finishes, often on rounded or arched forms. It reads as warm and handmade, and it sits well next to wood.
Use it for: feature fronts, reception desks, hospitality joinery, children's and bedroom furniture.

3. Linear woods
Wood is not going anywhere (33 of 75 stands), but the grain is calmer. After a period of rustic, knotty decors, straight and refined Italian-style grains are back, in pale oak, kraft and walnut. Slatted and fluted wood panels turned up almost everywhere.
Use it for: the 30% in your scheme: shelving, tabletops, doors, panelling.

4. The dark stage
Graphite, charcoal, aubergine and deep navy, always matte. On 29 of 75 stands, dark surfaces were used as a backdrop that lets wood, brass and color glow. Dark plus wood was the second most common pairing we saw.

Use it for: structure (frames, carcasses), bars, media walls, executive offices.

5. Botanic greens
Sage, olive, forest green, deep teal and one dusty blue. They appeared on 19 of 75 stands, one in four, and were the clearest alternative to the brown-and-beige mood: teal cabinets, sage counters, green with mustard. Usually a single supporting color next to terracotta, oak or mustard.
Use it for: one cabinet run, one wall, or the inside of open shelving.

6. One bright note
Mustard, burnt orange, signal red and deep cordovan appear sparingly, and almost never as a base. The rule we saw most often: one bright note per scheme.
Use it for: drawer interiors, edges, a single door, a stool. Small areas, high effect.

The numbers behind the mood
Earth and wood lead, with dark close behind. Greens and blues now reach one stand in four, and the bright accents trail far behind, which is the point: they work because they are rare.

The pairings matter more than the single colors. Two combinations carried the fair: baked earth with wood (15 stands) and dark with wood (14). Baked earth with a quiet neutral came next (12), and greens and blues most often travelled with a mustard or orange note (7).

Finish and texture matter as much as the color
A beige in gloss and a beige in matte are different colors. Three surface moves appeared across the stands:

• Matte, with a hint of life. Fully flat, low-gloss surfaces dominate, often with a velvety touch and a texture that reads as oiled real wood rather than as a print.
• Vertical texture. Slats and fluting appeared on 15 of 75 stands, on walls, counters and doors, in wood and in color. Texture lets a quiet palette carry depth without adding color.
• Soft geometry. Arches, pill shapes and curved or wavy counters appeared throughout, in wall tiles, bars and metal fronts. They pair naturally with the earth palette.

For edges, the consequence is simple: when the panel gets quieter and more tonal, a mismatched edge shows more. A matched or deliberately contrasting edge color is part of the design, not an afterthought.

How to specify it: 60 / 30 / 10
The schemes that worked best on the floor followed one proportion: a base color for about 60% of the visible surface, a supporting material (usually wood or a dark) for 30%, and one note for 10%. Here is how it translates by room.

Five rules we would take home from the fair:
1. Start with the neutral, not the accent. Pick the beige, greige or linen first and build outward.
2. Pair earth with wood, or dark with wood. These two pairings were the most common and the most resolved.
3. Keep the dark matte. A gloss black reads cheap. A matte graphite or aubergine reads deep.
4. Ration the bright note. One color, in one place, at about 10%.
5. Match or contrast the edge on purpose. On quiet, tonal panels the edge is visible. A tone-on-tone edge disappears; a darker edge defines.

Method and sources

We photographed the halls at SICAM (Pordenone, 20–23 October 2026), identified 75 distinct stands from more than 120 photos, and tagged each one by color family and display format by hand. A stand can carry up to three families. Counts are directional, not a market census, and swatch values are approximate because of hall lighting.
